Plating on Plastics (POP) is the technology associated with metallizing a plastic substrate for decorative and functional applications.
Conventional POP technology employs a catalyst to assist in the electroless deposition of either nickel or copper which become the conductive surfaces for subsequent electroplating of copper. The process steps can be seen in column one in the table below.
The Direct Plate technology utilizes a catalyst which is modified and renders the plastic surface relatively conductive for direct electroplating with copper, and thus eliminates the use of any electroless process.
Column two in the table below shows a typical DP process, and column three is the Okuno-Auromex proprietary CRP process.
