The technique was developed to eliminate the use of cyanide from the plating process. This reduces the costs associated with wastewater treatment and so reduces environmental impact. It also reduces any safety issues. Furthermore, as the alkaline non-cyanide zinc solutions are not corrosive to metal they will not degrade the equipment on the production line itself.
